Clarysta Finds ... Something

If I was just another dusty record on the shelf
Would you blow me off and play me like everybody else

Welcome to the era of the Instance Finder! You can read all about it here Release Notes and in this forum thread

My concern is not with the tool itself. From what I've seen on Bullroarer it is working as intended. Why it is intended to work that way, well, it seems to function as something that wasn't asked for. Kind of like getting a kitten when you really wanted a puppy - not an altogether bad thing, and hey at least you got something.

My concern is with the deployment.

I completely get that this is Instance Finder 1.0. I understand that future releases will be impacted by our feedback. To get that feedback, players have to actually USE the tool. So of course Turbine creates motives for our use.

Carrot:
Woo! +50% currency reward! This is a good thing, yes? Makes using the tool a pretty good idea, especially if you're in the grind for the new gear. That kind of reward would get a lot of players to use the tool.

Stick #1:
But...not using the tool is now bad player behavior. It's not enough to reward players to use this tool, Turbine must prevent anyone using the tool. So let's remove the daily quest rewards. In order to come close to what was earned before, a player HAS to use the tool.

Stick #2:
One stick is not enough apparently. To really hammer home the fact that this tool MUST be used, they increase the cost of the gear. So now really the only way to make it reasonable to get the gear is to use this tool.

They could have just given a carrot. Announce the tool, explain that it's 1.0 and feedback is necessary. "Play through 15 instances in 6 weeks using the tool and give feedback through an online survey and get a reward." Wouldn't even have to be +50%. 10% probably would have been enough. Heck, doesn't even have to be marks - lots of players would be glad to participate for a deed, a title (Clarysta Sunshine, Finders Keepers) a cloak or even a cosmetic item Cookie. Or a bro-stache app.

Turbine is really developing a reputation for not respecting the customer. How many more examples do we need?

If I could only find a note to make you understand
I'd sing it softly in your ear and grab you by the hands
To keep me stuck inside your head, like your favorite tune
And know my heart's a stereo that only plays for you
